The 2024 Scott Ransom

The Scott Ransom is a classic among enduro rigs. Previously known chiefly for its lightweight construction, the new iteration aims to score points with its integrated shock design as well.

Scott Ransom Review
Clean as Hell. Sporting a wireless drivetrain, integrated shock, and a carbon handlebar-stem combo, the new Scott Ransom is visually one of the cleanest-looking enduros on the market.

The Scott Ransom isn’t just a familiar face in the enduro scene, but also a rig that has consistently shaped the market through all its stages of development. That’s because the Ransom was one of the first bikes to combine plush suspension travel with low overall weight. Over a decade ago, the Swiss poured gasoline on the then-blazing enduro fire with this combination.

Even in 2024, the Ransom stays true to its roots. Despite its burly appearance, the new Ransom models are quite light relative to their price. Weights under 16 kilograms with 170mm of travel have become a real rarity. Scott is filling a gap in the market for many riders on the hunt for a new enduro steed.

New Rear Suspension Design

The integrated frame shock has become a hallmark of Scott over the past few years. Engineers have been busy combining the rear triangle design, originally patented by Brand Bold, with the plush travel of a Ransom.

Instead of the traditional shock linkages seen on Scott’s Spark or Genius models, a new approach has been developed to activate the shock. Scott refers to a 6-bar linkage system designed for the new Ransom. The number of pivots isn’t necessarily a mark of quality, but it allows designers to finely tune the rear suspension’s leverage curve.

One compromise that must be made is the increased complexity of the design. Even though the shock can operate protected from dirt and thus may require less maintenance, more work is necessary in the shop. A quick retightening or replacement of the rear pivot bearings simply takes longer here. Nonetheless, the concept remains fascinating.

Scott Ransom Integrated Shock
Inside the beefy belly of the Ransom lies not an e-bike motor, but the shock absorber. The linkage differs from all other Scott models by incorporating 6 joints. Engineers aim to extract maximum performance from this unique design.

Scott Ransom 2024
The Ransom has always been one of the lightest enduro rigs and that remains true for 2024. At 15.3 kg with 170 mm of travel, it's at the top of its class.
Inside the frame triangle, there's room for a large water bottle. A mini-tool and a pump can be stashed in the capacious downtube.

2024 Scott Ransom

The Scott Ransom was the last full-suspension model in the Swiss brand’s lineup without an integrated shock in the frame. That’s changing with the latest revamp of the enduro classic. However, incorporating the 170 mm of travel into the frame requires a complex rear suspension design. The top-tier Scott Ransom 900 RC also impressively proves that lightweight bikes can still be made in 2024. Despite packing 170 mm of travel, it tips the scales at just 15.2 kg – a figure that even bikes with 30 mm less travel haven’t achieved lately. Kudos to the engineers. Geometry-wise, the Swiss are not going wild, thereby appealing not only to seasoned racers but also to hobby riders.
