good price, good enduro bike?

Radon Jab MX review

The Radon Jab MX is an aggressively priced enduro bike. Radon not only delivers top-notch components but also a unique carbon frame and modern features with weights under 15 kilos for under 5000 €. Is it worth the purchase?

Radon Jab MX Review
Stylish, trendy, affordable. The Radon Jab MX is available for under €5000 with a full carbon frame and top-notch components.

The price spiral in the mountain bike sector has reached dizzying heights in recent years. Direct mail-order company Radon from Bonn has always been known as a price-aggressive provider. Like Canyon or Propain, it bypasses brick-and-mortar retailers, saving on margins. This competitive edge allows Radon to set prices that leave most traditional brands reeling. And that’s exactly the case with the new Radon Jab MX.

For under 5000 €, Radon not only delivers a unique carbon frame with a storage compartment in the downtube but also a first-class setup. Even the cheapest model at 4399 € comes with the Lyrik Ultimate, Rock Shox’s top fork, and already features solid DT Swiss brand wheels. For comparison: other manufacturers like Specialized or Santa Cruz quickly call for 7000-9000 € for such a package. Additionally, despite the enduro-ready setup, the bikes weigh under 15 kilos. Many competitors can’t keep up with that anymore.

Radon Jab MX Experience
Not only is it stylish, but it’s also lightweight. Thanks to the carbon frame, all Radon Jab models stay under 15 kg. This makes tours easily manageable.
Radon Jab MX Frame Details
The shock is well protected from dirt inside the frame. Rubber guards on the down tube and chainstay make the frame ready for hard enduro use. The storage compartment can be opened via a BOA closure in the bottom bracket area.

Geometry and Sizes of the Radon Jab MX

With a head angle of under 64 degrees and the combination of a large front wheel and small 27.5-inch rear wheel, Radon stays entirely modern. The main frame, with a reach of 480 mm in size L, is designed to be long but not excessively so. Due to the mullet setup, the bottom bracket drop is somewhat minimal at 17 mm.

Compared to many other enduros, the handling of the Radon Jab MX remains noticeably more agile. If you enjoy playfully ripping down the trail, you’ll love this. The bike allows for easy wheel lifts into manuals thanks to its short 432 mm chainstays or popping into the air for a bunny hop.

Radon Jab MX Experience
Airtime. If you love catching big air and styling it out mid-flight, you'll fall in love with the agile handling of the Radon Jab MX.

All Radon Jab MX models at a glance

The new Jab MX comes in three build options at its launch, all featuring the same carbon chassis. We took a look at all the options. With the arrow symbol Directly compare bikes, you can also compare individual models with any other bike in our extensive market overview.

With the YT Jeffsy and the Canyon Spectral, two exciting bikes with slightly less travel were already introduced this year. And in a big comparison test, we found out how much money you actually need to spend to have fun on challenging trails.

The most exciting Radon JAB MX

With a price of €4399, the Radon Jab MX 9.0 is certainly the most exciting model for most riders. Although it is the entry-level model, it already has an excellent suspension setup. And even though the Magura MT5 brakes are not the top brakes in Magura’s lineup, they provide excellent stopping power with 203 mm rotors at the front and rear. High-quality Maxxis tires and DT Swiss wheels make the bike a truly well-rounded package. The drivetrain even offers the full range of SRAM’s 520%. That’s all you really need.

Radon Jab MX 9 Review
It is the most exciting model in Radon's lineup. The Jab MX 9.0 costs 4399 € and weighs under 15 kilos. That's how it should be.

The toughest competitors

If you’re looking for a similarly good bike with 160 mm of travel in the price range under 5000 €, you can’t overlook two models: The Cube Stereo One55 and the Orbea Occam LT are definitely the most exciting alternatives here. However, in this price range, Orbea only offers an aluminum frame. As a specialty retail brand, Cube, on the other hand, delivers a similarly price-aggressive model with a carbon frame, which we’ve compared for you here.

Canyon Spectral
Canyon has recently trimmed it down a bit. The once 160mm bike now only has 150mm of travel, but with a downhill-oriented setup, it remains an exciting bike.
Radon Slide Trail
Those looking to spend less than 4000 € will find Radon's Swoop and Slide (pictured) models with aluminum frames.

Experience with the Radon JAB MX

It’s about time Radon updated its Jab MX. The direct seller lives up to its reputation. For under €5000, it offers a package that few other manufacturers can match. The approach with a 29er front and 27.5 rear wheel is currently trending. The playful handling on the trail makes the Jab MX a standout bike in the market. It’s not only lighter than most competitors but also more agile.
